Société Céramique Centre Céramique is located within the contours of the former factory site of the Société Céramique to Wijck. The name Centre Céramique refers to the history of this place. In 1851 the Société Céramique founded here by the Impress w. N Clermont and his brother-in-law c. Cahill. This factory became a major competitor to the Sphinx. Société Céramique produced solid and durable household earthenware and combined this with an artistic design. From 1912 produced one sanitary ware pottery. Architect-Engineer J.G.Wiebenga built the first factory Hall. In the first world war came to the rapid progress, which was up to that point, an abrupt end. Even after that, the company was thwarted by deteriorating economic conditions. With the development of the Department of fire clay, the introduction of the parafeuprocedé and pushing the accent to sanitary products held by Société Céramique however stand. After 1945 the company for years for the wind. Many people has therefore surprised about the merger with arch-rival the Sphinx in 1958. The production of household pottery on the site of the former Société Céramique was ended in 1963.
