Antique mid Victorian 10k rose gold hand carved ornate band ring, size 9, signed Arnold & Steere, pink gold, cigar band. Measures 5.7mm in width, and weighs 2.5 grams. Beautiful hand carved design on the diagonal with a Maltese cross shape on one side that is suitable for engraving your own initials or special date. Maker marked on the inside of the ring shank. Also hand engraved with the original owner or givers initials on the inside "H.K." As expected and typical of authentic Victorian jewels, particularly those hand crafted such as this ring, it is not hallmarked. It has been carefully tested by two separate bench jewelers and is guaranteed minimum 10k solid gold in content/purity. In outstanding well cared for condition, circa 1880.

About the maker: *Arnold & Steere- (Providence, Rhode Island). Founded in 1866 for the manufacture of solid gold rings. For 17 years the business was carried on under the name of Arnold & Webster (Henry E. Webster). Upon the death of Webster in 1885 Thomas F. Arnold continued the business alone until 1890 when Horace W. Steere became a partner and the name was changed to Arnold & Steere. In 1901 Arnold retired and William H. Grafton, who had been foreman for several years became a partner. It was listed in the directory (Keystone jewelry trade directory) through 1912. but continued to be listed in the Keystone directory through 1931. Thomas F. Arnold was born in Providence, Rhode Island November 12, 1831. Horace W. Steere was born in Gloucester, Rhode Island November 1, 1854. *American Jewelry Manufacturers by Dorothy T. Rainwater
