Aquamarine is the blue variety of the mineral Beryl. The name comes from the Latin aqua-marina, or "water of the sea". Aquamarine is the traditional birth stone for the month of March. Since early times it was believed to impart the wearer with courage, happiness, and harmony. Legend has it that aqua would protect sailors from hardship and sea sickness. It also is associated with healing, reduction of anxiety, and to quell the effects of toxins.
