Joe Lindhurst , in whose remarkable collection at the Warnham War Museum, West Sussex, much of Military Collectibles was photographed, has been a collector of militaria since the early 1930s. Born in 1924 to a London theatrical family, his life has always been imbued with a sense of showmanship. He received little formal education in the museum world but, having a compulsion to record in his own way the history of two World Wars, he began seriously to assemble his material in the late 1950s. The sale of the major part of the family business in 1972 enabled him to realise his dream of a museum of twentieth-century military transport and militaria, which was opened to the public in 1976.
