Very unusual vintage Art Deco 10k white gold asymmetrical black onyx ring with side bow detail, size 6-1/4. Signed Comet Ring Manufacturing Company- (Buffalo, New York). Measures 1/4" in width, band tapers to 1.8mm at the back of the ring shank, and the black onyx has a 3/16" rise off the top of the ring. Weighs 3.5 grams. Hallmarked "10K" and maker marked inside the ring shank. Accented by a round single cut 1.5mm diamond set into a tear drop shaped mounting. One shoulder has four heavy prongs that the thick side sets into, and the other shoulder has a stylized bow that the narrow side sets into. Such a classic and simple style, yet there are so many wonderful features. Sturdy mounting plus 10k durability equals one super ring for everyday wear. In outstanding extremely well cared for condition, circa 1950s. Really a terrific piece! According to American Jewelry Manufacturers by Dorothy Rainwater, Comet manufactured rings and advertised in the trade publication Jewelers Circular Keystone from 1950 to 1954.
