Antique Edwardian Egyptian Revival faience scarab 14k gold brooch pin. Hand made 14k yellow gold mounting with long trombone style safety clasp. Measures 1-1/8" x 1" x 5/16" and weighs 5.5 grams. The open pierced construction would make this very easy to also wear as a pendant by either threading a chain through it or by adding a bail to the top. The back of the scarab is carved with Egyptian symbols. The pin stem and the side of the mounting near the prong are both gold hallmarked, most likely European made judging by the construction. The scarab is a matte pale greyish brown color, much like the color of lava or putty. The hand carved faience scarab measures 5/8" x 1/2" x 1/8". In exceptional well babied condition, circa early 1900s.
