Outstanding Victorian walnut cradle. It is in amazing original condition complete with an open lace draping and mattress. It comes in three parts. The stand has octagonal sided curved ends with a turned stretcher holding them together at the base. There are a pair of legs at each end with an elaborate drop finial in the middle. The footboard end has a carved rosette at the of the post (see photo). Half-way down that post is a horizontal knob with threading. This can be screwed into the cradle basket to keep it from swinging. The headboard end of the stand has a beautifully turned post that has a bird's head (stork?) at the top (see photo). The beak is holding a valance that the lace curtains hang from. The cradle has a metal knob at each end that holds it into the stand and allows it to swing. It is oval in shape and has an open carved top rail at both ends. The flat slats on the sides have a slight "S" shape. This would be a wonderful display unit for a collection of dolls or stuffed animals! I can see it featuring a central place in the nursery of a historical home. Circa: 1860. Dimensions: 60"H x 53"L x 26"W. Condition: Fabulous original condition with a rich dark patina. Price: $1450
