Fabulous three-piece silver-plated centerpiece table setting made by Elkington & Co during the Rococo Victorian era. It features a central three arm candelabra in the middle with two boys playing football (soccer) at the base of three naturalistic winding tree branches. The branches have many leaves and a candleholder at the end. There are two matching compotes. Each piece has an original cut glass compote held by an ornate openwork three-dimensional pattern of overlapping leaves. Each of the inserts has a saw tooth cut edge. The lead crystal is of the finest quality and makes a substantial sound when dinged. Research on the Elkington Co shows them to be one of the most innovative and finest silver-plating companies of the period. The "T" mark in a diamond (see photo), in the hallmark of the candelabra, indicates that it was made in 1858. Elkington & Co put a gold wash on some of their better pieces. Substantial remnants of this wash can be observed on the boys and the central tree branches. These three pieces are extraordinary examples of Victorian silver plate - a showcase of the premier company! Circa: 1858. Dimensions: (Centerpiece) 20.5"H x 10" Diameter of bowl. Weight: 16.2lb (heavy!). Compotes: 9"H x 9" Diameter. Condition: All good original condition. Not recently polished but definitely polished over the years. Much of the gold wash remains but is worn in places that were frequently cleaned. $6995 for three piece set.
