GREAT Renaissance Revival walnut Victorian center table with a magnificent pietra dura round marble top. The top has a rounded edge with a black border surrounded by a narrow band of gold. Within this is a fabulous rich assortment of specimen marbles cut and fit into an elaborate design. The center of the table features a game board - a perfect surface for your chess or checker pieces. The skirt has four drop carvings. The spectacular base is profusely decorated with gilt and ebonized highlights, turned and fluted columns, burled panels, carved applied rosettes and a bold center turning in the middle. The table has the original wood castors. The top American furniture makers of this period, would purchase these pietra dura tops in Italy to put on their more prized tables. This is one of the best! Circa: 1870. Dimensions: 28"H x 31.5" Diameter of top. Condition: The base is in good original condition with a rich patina and gilt and ebony highlights. Normal wear to the feet. The pietra dura top is in excellent condition. There is one piece of the mosaic top that doesn't seem to belong with the rest of specimen marble. It has a solid light gray color (see photo). While there is no evidence of it being replaced, I wonder if it was originally in the top. Price: $7950.
