Gorgeous #5066 Handel metal overlay sunset lamp. A very similar lamp is pictured on page 54 of the Handel Lamps Book by Carole and John Hibel. The shade has NINE sides. The bottom border has a "S" wave design in each panel with a green and smokey slag glass behind. Each of the upper panels has
curved slag glass that gives a lovely sunset glow when lit. There are
eight standing palm trees overlaying each panel. The ribs between the
panels have a bark texture which is a bonus feature - the lamp referenced above has plain smooth ribs between the panels. The metal rim at the top of the shade has "Handel Patd 579564". The bronze patinated metal base has a tapered shape with the same "S" design on the base that is on the overlay at the base of the shade. There is a fancy openwork cone that holds the shade down. Three original bulb sockets are in the top. Most overlay lamps that Handel made had six or eight panels. This is the only pattern I have seen that has nine. The metal work is profuse giving the shade a very solid and heavy construction - along with the obvious decorative value. This is the best of the popular overlay lamps made by this prestigious Meriden Conn.
lamp company. Circa: 1910. Dimensions: 24" H x 20" Diameter of
shade. Condition: Fabulous original bronze patina on both base and shade.
One panel in the shade has a diagonal age crack at the bottom that is
completely hidden by the thick metal overlay. Price: $6750
