Gorgeous Victorian walnut sewing or work stand. It has an inset burled top that lifts up to expose a fabulous interior (see photo). The interior includes two original pin cushions and a number of walnut compartments. The underside of the top has a decorative original fabric. There is a narrow storage drawer below the top that features a nicely carved pull and molding on the burled front. Beneath that is a fancy tapered “belly” drawer that was used to store thread. It has thick walnut sides that are completely open carved. The sides of the cabinet have raised burled panels and moldings. The top is supported on both sides with two turned tapered legs with a wonderful open carved decorative sculptural element between them. A bold center turning connects the two sides. This delightful piece is supported by intricately carved claw feet. One of the best sewing tables I have ever sold – a masterpiece! Circa: 1860. Dimensions: 28″ H x 25.5″ W x 18″ D. Condition: Great original finish with a rich deep patina. Wood is in excellent condition. The fabric is all original – it is partially disintegrated in the interior of the thread drawer. I have not taken it out because it shows exactly what should be done if one chooses to replace it. Another option would be to remove the fabric all together. The fabric of the pin cushions and interior of the top are in very presentable original condition. Price: 2450.
