From our personal collection: A floral beaded purse dated “May 28, 1835″ on the front, and on the back the name is something like “Eveline J Hunt”. The beading on the front is in remarkable original condition but the back does show wear and some losses at the top that make it difficult to decipher the full name. The front and back have matching beadwork designs with a center bouquet of roses, and petaled flowers that is surrounded by six rosebuds. There is a delicate cinnamon colored beaded border with oak leaves and acorns at the bottom. The zipper top and cloth handle with machine stitching appear to be added at a later time (maybe about 1920) and have some patina that blends well to the earlier purse. Our guess is that the date of “1835″ represents the birthday of the maker (“Hunt’) and it was made 1890 – 1900. It is rare to find a beaded purse that has both a name and date (especially this early)! Circa: Turn of the century; handle and zipper added about 1920. Condition: A couple spots of slight staining, some bead loss mainly at the top back. Dimensions: 7″ H x 6″ W x 1/2″ D. Price: $325.
