From our personal collection: Dated 1909 Black Forest Walnut Frame with bird nest, mother bird and babies and elaborate notched wood thick branch carvings and side roping. The date is at the bottom inside a carved wreath. The mother bird and babies are at the top with the mother leaning over on a branch to feed her open mouth babies in a nest. Note: a small tip of the mother’s front wing, and tiny tip of her tail have been missing for a long time (see photo). Original wooden back and metal support. Notice the humor expressed by the carver in creating a “wooden screw” at top left where the two branches intersect! The fine original finish has a wonderful patination and warm walnut color. Circa: 1909. Condition: Excellent original finish (two minor wood losses). Dimensions: 12″ H x 10 1/2 ” W x 1 1/2 D (not including metal support stand.) Price: $695.
