Great quality Renaissance Revival Victorian walnut oval stand. The marquetry top features musical instruments, grapes and fronds. There are two concentric bands of inlay around the marquetry. A two inch burled band surrounds the outer edge of the top. There are four incised carved applied drops on the underside of the top (one has been professionally restored). The base has gilt filled incised carvings, ebonized highlights, turned finials and four applied fancy brass buttons. A special feature is the original red incising set into a gilt panel on four facets of the center post (see photo). This polychrome decoration was employed by Killian Brothers, NYC. Information on this company is found on page 728 of the May 1999 issue of Magazine Antiques. I attribute this stand to them. A highly decorated sophisticated Renaissance Revival table! Circa: 1870. Dimensions: 28″ H x 24.5″ W x 17.5″ D. Condition: Cleaned original finish. There is some loss and raising to the inlay on the top. Some nicks and wear to the base. The gilt and red polychrome is in great original condition and greatly enhances the look of the table.
