Unique Victorian wicker trunk with the rectangular red label “Heywood Brothers and Wakefield Company Chicago” label on the bottom (see photo). It has an attractive needlepoint patchwork designed top that was likely added in the past. An original stick support can be used to keep the top open (see photo). The fully woven base has a double diamond design on the front and back with single diamonds on the sides. A horizontal braid runs along the top and bottom. It has beehive feet with the original brass caps. This piece is utilitarian as well as decorative. It would be lovely at the foot of a bed or in any other room of a house for that matter. I have sold over a thousand pieces of wicker over the last forty five years and I have NEVER seen another one of these. It is a very rare piece. I purchased it from a sophisticated collector in Michigan. Circa: 1880. Dimensions: 16.5″ H x 31″ L x 18″ D. Condition: Excellent original condition with a rich honey colored original patina. Some very normal and minor scuffing to the beehives on the feet. Price: $1695.
