Great Victorian era sampler made by Corinne Guggenheim from Monsey, New York ( A small hamlet in Rockland County). In addition to the alphabet, it has a man, dog, birds, trees, flowers and a castle. It has a period and likely original birdseye maple frame. There is some normal staining but generally it is in good condition with no significant loss. It is dated 1865 – the year the Civil War ended! (Note: a customer from Ruby Lane informed me that this sampler is a popular pattern that has been used for many years. The original was created in 1805 and can be found in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Obviously Corinne used this "Paragon alphabet" sampler pattern to create this one. Notice that the pattern is copied exactly but the name was done more "free hand".) A lovely piece of Americana with fabulous provenance! Circa: 1865. Dimensions: 19″ H x 24″ W. Condition: Noted above. Price: $1150.
