Rare form fancy Victorian wicker music shelf or magazine stand. It came from a private collection. This piece is shown on page 100 of “Heywood Brothers and Wakefield Company, Classic Wicker Furniture, The Complete 1898-1899 Illustrated Catalog.” It is also on the cover of this catalog! It features a great top with many curlicues, birdcages and stick and ball work. A front piece is hinged and folds out while supported by small chains on both sides. The base has three oak shelves with ornate embellishments. It has the original brass caps on the feet and the original label (see photo) “Wakefield Rattan Co. Boston, New York, Chicago”. A stylish and great example of Victorian wicker!
