Unusual Victorian cranberry glass jar with silver plated frame and top. It has enameled hand painted floral decoration on the sides. It also has a round rib pattern to the glass – much like an old bee hive. I would believe for that reason it was meant to hold honey. The frame has an elaborate design under the handles that features a classical head with open work floral wings. It is signed on the bottom “Quadrupel Plate Aurora SP MFG. Co. Warrented.” This company was located in Illinois and not as well known as it’s Connecticut contemporaries. A lovely and rare piece! Circa: 1880. Dimensions: 9.5″ H x 8″ (handle to handle). Conditions: Original tarnish to the silver which could be polished if so desired. The glass an decoration are in good condition. Price: $895
