Great early Victorian astral lamp signed “Cornelius & Co, Phila Patent April 1st 1848″ on the oval metal tag that the company typically used (see photo). It has a square marble base and a fluted brass stem that rises to a fancy corinthian capital. Years ago, when the lamp was electrified, solder was used to seal the font to the stem (see photo). The original brass ring sets on the font and holds the crystal prisms. It has a fabulous frosted glass globe that features but flowers, berries, grapes and leaves. A lovely lamp made by one of the most famous makers of the period. Circa: 1850. Dimensions: 29″H (to top of globe) x 9″Diameter of globe. Condition: Electrified many years ago. brass was most likely polished at that time. The marble base shows has some minor roughness and show discoloration from age. Missing one prism. Price: $1795.
