This stunning signed porcelain cabinet plate depicts a Partridge, against a patch of summer daisies. Lovely tones of pink, brown and yellow highlight his beautiful plumage. The signature reads either REMY, or RENE with a line underneath.
The heavy gold rim is perfect, as is the foot, and overall condition. No chips, no cracks, no fleabites, no crazing - I can't even find a glaze fault! It's as Near Mint as it can be. It measures 10 1/4" across at widest point. You will see a couple of brown 'dots' on the left side of the painted surface, near the gilt rim - they are little paint splatters from the artist.
On back is the underglaze mark for Coiffe Limoges, in green - dating this piece to 1891-1914. The foot is pierced, should you care to hang it on the wall.
This is a family piece (at least 3 generations), and probably was bought in Ohio. I do not know if the signature is that of a factory artist or an amateur, but it is no-one in my family.
Many Limoges 'blanks' from different factories in Limoges, France were sold in both the US and the UK, for amateur artists and art studios to paint. The heavy gold rim was applied to the blanks by the factory.
Plate stand not included.
