The wood base retains its original black enamel finish and 4 wood bun feet. The miniature French clock movement is 2" diameter with original 9 Ruby and Sapphire jewels, 11 jewels if you count the two Ruby entrance and exit pallets, on platform escapement. It is a week duration time piece, with amazing accuracy.
See photos of marked and low serial number movement. Photos show what a professionally restored movement show look like when properly done. The clock movement and platform were disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned, pivots polished, one bushing, and hair spring demagnetized. The balance wheel has strong oscillation.
The hand decorated porcelain dial is 2 1/2" diameter, in mint condition. The fire gilt gold on the hands, front bezel and rear dust cover is very strong and original. Beveled convex crystal is also mint.
The case bears the mark of Volkstedt porcelain manufacture, blue mark is under glaze. See photo. The information we have been able to acquire is this mark was used from 1760 to 1800, the mark is known as a Hay fork, after 1800 the flower/sun burst was added. Christian Nonne managed the Volkstedt German Porcelain Company, Tienfenfurt, Silesia Germany. This is one of the oldest German Porcelain Manufactory.
Clock is the best quality porcelain, with three putti, aka cherubs at the top and two birds at the left. The gold highlighting is mint, no touch-up. The case is hand decorated with spring flowers; pansies and forget me nots. Note: these are hand painted and not transfers. One cherub has lost his wing. Otherwise the case is mint, No cracks, no crazing, no repair. The three putti have fine detailing and facial features.
This ultra fine porcelain clock has survived 140 years in near mint condition under it's original hand blown oval glass dome, which has also survived in mint condition. You will not find better. All of my clocks come with a detailed set of instructions specific to the clock and a key. See photos. INV8311
