American School House wall Clock or regulator Clock. Please read the full description. Made by the Ansonia Clock Co., of Brooklyn NY. It is 100% original and has been completely restored. The case is beautiful quarter Sawed Golden Oak, Condition is near mint. They just don't get any nicer, Circa 1900. Clock is 22" long, 14 1/2" wide, 4 1/2" deep. See other listings for other School House Regulator Wall Clocks, All are original restored condition and All ore on sale. I have 80 other Antique Clocks to choose from This clock has a perfect original dial which is 9" in diameter minute track to minute track, 10" overall. Movement is original to the case. Clock has original dial, bezel, upper and lower glasses, pendulum, and old key marked Ansonia. There is also nice old label inside the case. This clock is a week duration time piece, which means you wind it up every 7 days and the clock does not chime. True School House Clocks did not chime or strike the hours, they did not want the students to be disturbed during class time. This is also the true configuration for an authentic school clock from the 1900's on. This is the last perfect example of an American School Clock I have. We had many of these clocks boxed up and put away years ago now this is it, LAST ONE.
The Following Restoration Was Preformed.
Case has been professionally refinished, rubbed out between coats and three layers of cabinet wax applied. The quarter sawed oak is in excellent condition, see photos. The grain is amazing . The color is a light brown oak and the finish is between satin and semi gloss. It is not shiny, but rather has a nice warm glow.
The signed Ansonia movement is original to the case. The Ansonia clock movement is an unusual off set movement.
All Brass parts polished and sealed, just as it was done over 100 years ago. I am a purest and believe in preserving as much as humanly possible. The Value for Good Antiques is in Originality and Condition. Not Damaged, Broken, or comprised of non-original parts and overall dirty condition. Good Original Restored Antique Clocks have increased in value by leaps and bounds. Where-as non original unrestored clocks have not increase in value and are pretty much the same value they were years ago. 40 years ago. it was fronted upon to restore an original dial, refinish the case and add a factory label that was missing. Now due to the lack of good original clocks these things have become acceptable and will not alter the value, or so the experts say.
The clock movement was completely disassembled and cleaned in an Ultra Sonic cleaner. all pivots were resurfaced and polished on the Watch Makers lathe, 6 new bronze bearings were installed into worn pivot holes. I use the more expensive bronze bushings simply because they are harder and last longer than brass bushings. All bushing work in done by hand not with a drill press or bushing machine. This ensures the bushings are the correct size and are installed perpendicular. Once installed the interior of the bushing is polished with a smoothing broach and the oil sinks are hand cut into the front of the new bearing, the back side is cut to remove troublesome burrs. All metal to metal wear was eliminated. The verge was hand stoned and polished with a Sapphire file, the scaring on the entrance and exit pallets were excessive, then it was trued to the escape wheel. The clock was cleaned again in the Ultra Sonic cleaner to remove any metal particles, assembled and lubricated with the finest clock oil. The clock now runs with a very strong pendulum amplitude as it should. I run and test my clocks for 30 days prior to being offered for sale. This is what I do and have done for the last 42 years. As a clockmaker, all work is performed to the highest Horological standard.
Basic Information You Should Know!
For those of you who are not familiar with the term "Restoration", this simply means cleaning, waxing and repairing a clock or any other Antique to original condition without alteration. The more an item is original the more it is worth. The less original the less it is worth. If the clock movement is changed, the Antique Value is diminished to parts only and can not be valued as an Antique.
Polishing the Brass will not alter the Antique Value of a clock.
Not everyone can afford or even appreciate this level of restoration. However, that is no reason to perpetuate the misrepresenting and dishonesty by other clock sellers. There is a perfectly good reason why clock sellers will not show you the clock mechanism. #1 their clock is dirty, badly worn and probably not original to the case. #2 if it is shown it does not look like my clock movements. #3 The latest deception is that sellers are taking a photo of the movement with a bright flash giving the illusion that the brass movement is clean and bright. Saying that a clock is running good does not mean it will keep accurate time.
Many internet clock sellers claim that they guarantee the clock runs, however when the clock arrives it will not run. When the seller is contacted he simply passes the buck to the shipper that it was damaged in shipping and you the buyer should file a insurance claim. This gets him off the hook for selling a clock that was not in good order to begin with. WARNING, If not packed properly the shipper will refuse the damage claim. Sound Familiar?
