Nippon Relish Set Master Dish and Four Servings, White and Gold Pattern, Nippon porcelain, complete relish set from the white and gold pattern series, master dish and four individual servings. This set is done in high relief gold outlining and beading, clover design and diaper border. Dish has pierced handles. Slight wear to gold leaf along edge and handle area. All pieces in this set are backstamped with Nippon mark #47, in magenta. The master relish dish is 7 1/4" by 5 1/8", individual dishes are 3" by 2" in matching pattern. No chips, cracks, breaks or repairs. See photos. Because this set's floral design is done only in gold it is one of the earlier white and gold sets. The later ones have accent coloring in the eaves or flowers, often red, orange, green or blue. Mix and match white and gold patterns they all look wonderful together and are very compatible.
While this set is called a relish, it has many contemporary uses; sauces or dips. It is the size of the dish that determines that it is called a relish, not to be confused with a celery dish that is much larger.
