Drugstore pharmacy items, men's grooming, Tawn was the name of a new brand of men’s Toiletries created by McKesson-Robbins, with concept to take the finest ingredients put in a sensible container and price the items so low any many could afford to be perfectly groomed every day. First introduced in the late 1940’s the Tawn brand of men’s personal hygiene products were manufactured in Bridgeport Ct and New York. Advertising campaigns promoted these toiletries predominately in 1947-1950 for holidays such as Father’s day, birthdays, and Christmas.
Individually the items were priced for less than a $1 each; cologne, lotion, and dressing were 75 cents, shampoo only 50 cents.
Items were combined into a “perfect travel kit”, being a valet for men away from home, camping, weekends, vacations and even club lockers. It was all assemble in a simulated pigskin plastic waterproof case that would fit a coat pocket. Case was roll-up, envelope style with satin thread twisted rope tie cord. Designed to fit in a coat pocket, waterproof plastic case is 15 ½” long fully extended, 7 ½” wide, with 11 pocket compartments for Tawn products.
Close to complete this deluxe kit comes with glass bottles labeled lotion, hair dressing, shampoo, a comb , tube of brushless shave, unused Gillette razor, blades, Dr. Wests glass toothbrush holder, septic pencil, card with reordering information and original Tawn Toiletries brochure.
Tawn Toiletries travel kit items for men assured "correct grooming", and each product included had been accepted by the Committee on Cosmetics of the American Medical Association.
