Easel clock, antique Waterbury Mantel Clock with Cherubs and Griffins, gilted cast spelter case, by the Waterbury Clock Co., of Waterbury, Conn. NO Damage or repair to the case. Clock is 11" tall, 9" wide, 3" deep, 2 3/4" diameter dial. The original keywind movement was ultrasonically cleaned, the hairspring demagnetized and balance wheel pivots pointed. Clock runs accurately for 30 hours, it is a one day movement.
The cast white metal case still has some of the original fire gilt gold finish. The case was lightly cleaned, then lacquered to preserve the gold. Clock has exceptional detailing in the casting; the top has a winged cherub. Each side is flanked with winged griffins.
All of these American cast metal cases were spelter; none were made of brass, bronze or copper. Regardless of who made the clock they were originally copper plated then gold plated. The only mark on this case is 5086 which is a foundry number. I have an identical case that is marked PL & B Co. (Pittsburgh Lamp & Brass Co, of Pittsburgh, Pa.) See photos, I have shown both clocks together.
