Amber glass apothecary bottle, one ounce sealed contents, Hirathiol from Takamine Laboratory Inc. of New York. Contents is brownish black syrupy liquid, aqueous solution used by the U.S Military since 1917. A chemical compound which appears under the form of a brownish-black, syrupy liquid, has a burning taste and a tarry odor and is used for pharmaceutical products such as skin ointments and special dermatological soaps. Considered a military medicine, paper label reads U. S. Naval Medical Supply Depot, Brooklyn, NY. Bottle is 2 5/8" tall, 1 1/4" diameter, molded amber glass, with plaster impressed sealed at the top. Takamine Laboratory was founded by Japanese chemist, Jokichi Takamine. First research lab 1898 was in NYC considered as one of the finest and noted for scientific work.
