Sugar Shaker, Circa 1895, this shaker is the Melligo pattern by Consolidated Lamp and Glass Co., of Coraopolis Pennsylvania. Sugar shakers are sometimes referred to as sugar sifter or muffineer (English term). Shaker is opaque blue glass, 4 1/2" tall, no chips, cracks, breaks or repairs. Metal top with wear, has 5-point star pattern. This shaker is shown in Victorian Colored Pattern Glass, Vol. III. See photos.
C. L. & G. Co. purchased the former Fostoria Lamp and Shade Company plant on December 13, 1893. Period ads list Consolidated Lamp and Glass Company as “the successor to Fostoria Lamp and Shade Co.” Many of the glass patterns associated with C. L. & G. Co. were actually Fostoria Lamp and Shade patterns. Melligo was one of these patterns.
No damage, chips, crack or repairs. Glass is clean.
Sugar shakers in collection ON SALE were acquired long before L.G. Wright sold their molds to various companies, with 700 being purchased by the Chinese in 1999. Our sugar shakers ON SALE were purchased with invaluable knowledge of Heacock and Lechner books and long before repros hit the market. Set your collecting standards high with affordable originals, not cheap repros.
