Beer Stein German hand painted glass tankard circa 1890 -1900, glass is hand painted with enamel paints, stein has relief pewter lid. Maker is unknown. Etched at the top is 1.0 l. Stein is 9 3/4", base diameter is 4". The shape of the stein is cylindrical, tapered from the top to the base. The bottom is recessed and has a pontil mark. The handle is applied, at the base where it is attached is a thumbnail size glass button with relief. The thumblift is floral relief with plumes. The strap support is arrow shaped. The enamel hand painted flowers surround the entire tankard. The flowers are edelweiss and other wild alpines. Colors are blue, rose and some small orange colored daisy like flowers. Embossed on the lid is "Froh Beim Bier, Das Loben Wir". Loosely translated "happy with our beer, that is what we appreciate". Painted on the tankard the words translate "for remembrance". This stein was most likely a presentation piece to a person or for an event. Condition is excellent. No damage, breaks or repairs. See photos.
