Antique biscuit jar, Bristol glass, circa 1900, hand painted decorations. Sometimes referred to as biscuit barrel (English) or cookie jar (American slang). The bands of colors are a 1" brown border extending down from the mount and 1/2" light gray/green band with hand painted flowers. The background is gold leaf with yellow enamel dots outlining the flowers. The body of the biscuit jar is predominately a glossy cream color onto which leaf, branch and flower sprigs are hand painted. Photos show a very good depiction of colors and hues. The lid, mount and handle are silver plated, as they should be. There is microscopic wear to the top knob, so slight it will not show up in photos. Some slight gold leaf wear also. Biscuit jar is 7" to top of the mount, 8 7/8" to top of lid and 10 1/2" with handle extended. Diameter at the base is 4", with a 3/8" pedestal trimmed in gold leaf. Overall biscuit jar is 16 1/2" around. Excellent condition, no chips, cracks, breaks or repairs.
