Oval center table, marquetry inlay on the top, 36 1/2" by 24 1/2" , 1" thick. Table height is 30", American circa 1900. Table is constructed of solid mahogany. The top is profusely inlaid into quarter cut (tiger) mahogany. This center table is an exceptional example of furniture making at its best. The 1" thick mahogany top surface has four matched booked sections of quarter cut mahogany. Inlay woods are walnut, satinwood, mother of pearl and rosewood. NO damage or repair to the inlay. Table is American, probably New York City area. Finish is a deep French polish, very light crazing starting to appear. The oval skirt has string satinwood inlay. The tapered legs have string inlay on all four sides. The scalloped stretcher is also string inlaid following the contours of the scalloping. The stretcher has four book matched quarter cut mahogany sections applied in the same style as the top. There is a tight shrinkage crack in the center of the stretcher. Table is structurally sound, level and wobble free. The design is well balanced and the legs are not squared off, rather they follow the oval lines of the top. Regardless of where you stand to view the table it has symmetry, the overall quality and craftsmanship is visible.
