Sugar Shaker American Victorian Glass made by Bryce Brothers. Sugar shakers are sometimes called sifters or muffineers. This same shaker is listed on the Bryce Brothers Museum Web Site. Bryce Brothers Glass Company can be traced back to 1850 and after several different partnerships and transitions in 1882 they again became known as Bryce Brothers Glass Company. They retained that company name until it became "Factory B" as part of the new U.S. Glass Company in 1891. The principles of Bryce Brothers continued in the business until 1893, when they withdrew from the U.S. Glass Co. combine. They then started a new company known as Bryce Bros. Co, Mt. Pleasant Pa. That company closed in 1944.

Rarely are they signed. Relatively scarce, opaque white opalware sugar shaker. Mold blown, raised band of diamond encircling the base. Manufactured as part of the pattern are fine striation lines patterned in the glass body. Hand painted floral spray with single sprig on the back. Shaker has original top. Better to have old than a replacement. Some metal plating worn off the top. Light brass color is evident. No chips or cracks or dents on the top. Circa 1900-1907. Sugar shaker is 4 1/4"tall. There is a hairline scratch on the bottom, possibly residue from manufacturing. Between the diamond pattern at the base is hint of yellow or gold. See photos. All of our sugar shakers are guaranteed OLD. Last photo shows collection we have ON SALE

Sugar shakers in collection ON SALE were acquired long before L.G. Wright sold their molds to various companies, with 700 being purchased by the Chinese in 1999. Our sugar shakers ON SALE were purchased with invaluable knowledge of Heacock and Lechner books and long before repros hit the market. Set your collecting standards high with affordable originals, not cheap repros.
