Wood document box, Civil War era, box is 17 3/4” long, 7 1/2” wide and 6” tall. Note the three original brass hinges and front latches, dovetail construction. Solid maple wood has been professionally refinished. Box is in beautiful condition, NO damage. Very clean interior. The previous owner proudly stored her great grandfather’s civil war items and stated that the box had belonged to him. There is a 1/8” shrinkage gap on the underside of the bottom. See photo. Brass has been polished and sealed. The 18 brads which held the hinges on were replaced due to corrosion. This is a first for me, seeing one in this unbelievable condition.
