Advertising sign, Arkansas Power and Light Company, Please read the full description, actual size is 20 1/2” by 12 1/2” mounted on acid free foam board and offset with red and blue matte, the sign will be shrink wrapped for protection, overall size is 24” by 15 1/4”, a piece of Americana from the 1930-1940 rural electrification era. In the 1930’s almost 90 percent of farms and rural areas in the United States were still without access to electric service. Many consumers were still in the dark when it came to understanding electricity and the ways it could improve their lives. To help get the message out, campaigns were undertaken. At this time the Reddy Kilowatt character was most recognized. However, Arkansas branched out on their own and utilized a very similar image of Willing (Willie) Watt. The character was a figure composed of a body and limbs of jagged lines simulating lightning, a round head and nose with a resemblance to a light bulb. The caricature infuriated Collins, the originator of Reddy Kilowatt, to initiate a lawsuit. This poster has historical merit, depicting drivers wearing WW 2 helmets, driving post war Army Willys jeeps, transporting electrical appliances. See photos. Upper right corner has small discoloration and above K in Blitzkrieg. The traditional meaning of the German word blitzkrieg is that of a tactical and operational methodology used in the first half of the Second World War, often referred to as a new method of warfare. The word, meaning "lightning war", in its strategic sense describes a series of quick and decisive actions as an approach to achieving success. In this case introducing electricity to Arkansas. A few faint spots along the bottom. The overall condition is excellent, the colors are bright and sharp, some very faint spots along the bottom considering the age and made from heavy card stock card board, it is a miracle it has even survived. This was a disposable sign. I seriously doubt if another sign like this and in this condition survives today. There fore I would consider this sign RARE. See the Company logo on bottom right. See photos. See Reddy Kilowatt sign we are also selling.
