Antique wall clock made by the Gilbert Clock Co., Winsted, Connecticut, circa 1900. A rarely seen model, was completely restored in 1974 when purchased, then packed away at that time for a move, recently just unpacked, it has been freshened up after all these 40+years boxed up. I acquired it from a well known So. California collector, Bill Spry, better known as "Mr. Patti". The rebuilt movement is original to the case and is marked Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co., Winsted Conn USA Pat June 3 1879 & Feb 26 1884. It is an unusual movement, the Graham Dead Beat escapement is mounted on the front of the movement; it is usually only found on weight driven clocks. Movement is a week duration, very accurate and has a strong pendulum amplitude. The clock chimes the correct number of hours at the hour and once at the half hour. The clock retains it's original cathedral gong. Clock is very very good sounding chime, deep melodic tone. Clock has original brass pendulum bob, wood pendulum rod was broken and been replaced, included is marked winding key. The dial was restored by the Dial House in 1974. The bezel hinge was replaced as was door glass. The case was professionally refinished. All 12 pieces of walnut trim are original. The clock had a hard ride from California to Vermont, however it did arrive in perfect condition. This example of the Star Drop model as it is known has a second hand, known as a seconds bit, not a sweep second hand. However, the clock does beat true seconds, another unusual feature for a short pendulum clock. Weight driven wall clocks with meter pendulums were the only true seconds or 60 beat clocks We have over 80 original restored wall, mantel, desk and table clocks listed. ALL ON SALE. Size. 32 1/2" Long x 18" Wide x 4 1/2" Deep with a 12" diameter dial.
