Three weight Grand Sonnerie, in Wien, Austria Period Biedermeier Wall Clock. Circa 1845, Size 56" Tall X 15 1/4" Wide X 6 1/2" Deep, The 72 beat Movement is original to the sold cherry case. Very rare for one these clocks with a cherry case. Original two piece porcelain dial and pie crust cast bezel, steel hands, five spoke wheel pulleys, restored three train Grand Sonnerie striking movement with Vienna quarters repeating the last hour and quarter hours on demand with pull repeat. Hand carved wood crest and tail piece. Four Gesso door pieces. Refinished case. The back board is original to the case. The weights, pendulum, pulleys, and bezel were polished and sealed. The brass door latch is not original but is an old one. Both brass wall stabilizers were missing, new ones, made by me in 1984. The original dual coil gong and stand were removed and replaced with bar chime and block, it definitely sounds better. I have the original coil gong and stand. The brass pendulum bob is an open back which is a bit unusual. I have only seen this on silk thread suspension clocks of the same period. The clock is a week duration with a strong pendulum amplitude and keeps accurate time. There are several repair dates scribed on the back of the dial. Starting with 1849, 1861, 1875, 1886. I had a very good relationship with a 3rd generation Viennese clock maker from whom I purchased all of my early weight driven clocks. The irony is these early examples were selling for more money 35 years ago than they are today. This clock was purchased in Vienna in 1984 long before all of the fakes that have been flooding the US market. The fakes were and are being made in Poland, Czech Republic and United Kingdom. The repros are well done you would have to be an expert to spot them. All of the original early Vienna clocks were hand made and are one of a kind. THE MOVEMENTS ALONE TOOK WEEKS TO BUILD. For this reason they are highly prized by collectors. Most of my early Vienna clocks that I have owned and still own are featured in one of the 4 Rick Ortenburger's Books. The restoration had been completed on this clock by the time of the final publication. See last photo for a few other original Biedermeier clocks. This clock is very heavy and delicate, this will require several boxes for proper packing
