Hamilton Beach Model 60 Ice Cream Scoop or disher, One Of 6 listed for sale, overall length 9” long, 4 1/8” long wooden handle, lever action scoop, 2 1/4” bowl basin, round scoop, 1 1/2” deep, scraper or wiper is marked 16, equivalent to 1/4 cup portion size, stainless steel lever, cog, scraper rod, shank, thumb press lever and disher components. Marked on the backside Pat.Nos. 1862527 D-112040 2155700. First patented in 1933. After many years in use scraper rod has very slight bend, some wear to finish. Displays well. Wiper is marked with Pat. Nos. 1961655. We can thank inventor and businessman named Alfred L. Cralle, who invented the ice cream scooper. It was while working in Pittsburgh as a porter that Cralle noticed that ice cream was difficult to dispense. It tended to stick to spoons and ladles, usually requiring use of two hands and at least two implements to serve. Classic lever-action models to distinctive and valuable shape-molding scoops were design and the the US Patent and Trademark Office issued 241 patents for ice cream dippers or scoops between 1878 and 1940.
