Antique French Balloon Mantle Clock, Please read the full description, 100% Original and completely restored, hand carved solid oak Case. The clock movement is French, has 7 Ruby jeweled platform escapement, week duration time piece. The mint oak case is marked on the back “Oetzmann & Co. London, Casemaker”. The clock is 9 3/4” tall, 6” wide and 3 1/4” deep with a 3 1/2” diameter mint original porcelain dial. The clock retains the 4 original brass bun feet, original brass dust cover which is usually missing, brass bezel and convex beveled crystal, hands and most important of all the original platform escapement. The 7 jeweled platform was the only portion of the clock that was handmade and assembled. If the original platform is missing or has been replaced, the antique value is diminished by 50%. This is not my opinion, this is a fact. Any reputable Antique clock appraiser will testify to that. See photos of this clock and movement. Shown is what a rebuilt and restored French clock movement should look like.
The old 1980’s price guides have disclaimers relative to value, “To receive top value clocks must be in mint original condition and good running order, a replaced dial, missing parts will reduce the price." The value of this clock in the 80’s has increased greatly in value since then. See photos.

"The following is the restoration performed".
All Brass parts polished and sealed, just as it was done over 100 years ago. I am a purest and believe in preserving as much as humanly possible. The Value for Good Antiques is in Originality and Condition. Not Damaged, Broken, or comprised of non-original parts and overall dirty condition. Good Original Restored Antique Clocks have increased in value by leaps and bounds. Where-as non original unrestored clocks have not increase in value and are pretty much the same value they were years ago. 40 years ago it was frowned upon to restore an original dial, refinish the case and replacing a factory label that was missing. Now due to the lack of good original clocks these things have become acceptable and will not alter the value, or so the experts say.
The solid Oak case was cleaned and waxed, strong original finish, The movement was completely disassembled and cleaned in the Ultra sonic cleaner, all pivots were resurfaced and polished on the lathe, the mainspring was removed from the spring barrel and hand cleaned, the platform was disassembled and cleaned in my watch cleaning machine, the hairspring was demagnetized, the clock was hand polished as they were done originally reassembled, where it was run, tested and adjusted for accuracy. The clock was tested for 30 days prior to being offered for sale. This is a very strong running clock and is accurate to with in a few minutes a week. There is a price for Professional restoration work, $400 worth of work performed. Currently an internet auction site is showing an almost identical clock in unrestored, non running condition for $360 + shipping from Canada. You be the judge. Which is more desirable. See last photos for some but not all of the Fantastic clocks we have listed for sale.
Basic Information You Should Know!
For those of you who are not familiar with the term "Restoration", this simply means cleaning, waxing and repairing a clock or any other Antique to original condition without alteration. The more an item is original the more it is worth. The less original the less it is worth. If the clock movement is changed, the Antique Value is diminished to parts only and can not be valued as an Antique.
Polishing the Brass will not alter the Antique Value of a clock.
Not everyone can afford or even appreciate this level of restoration. However, that is no reason to perpetuate the misrepresenting and dishonesty by other clock sellers. There is a perfectly good reason why clock sellers will not show you the clock mechanism. #1 their clock is dirty, badly worn and probably not original to the case. #2 if it is shown it does not look like my clock movements. #3 The latest deception is that sellers are taking a photo of the movement with a bright flash giving the illusion that the brass movement is clean and bright. Saying that a clock is running good does not mean it will keep accurate time.
Many internet clock sellers claim that they guarantee the clock runs, however when the clock arrives it will not run. When the seller is contacted he simply passes the buck to the shipper that it was damaged in shipping and you the buyer should file a insurance claim. This gets him off the hook for selling a clock that was not in good order to begin with. WARNING, If not packed properly the shipper will refuse the damage claim. Sound Familiar?
