Antique Chinoiserie mantel, desk or even bedside clock, 5” tall, 5” wide, 2 3/4” deep. Please read the full description. This clock is 100% original and is fully restored. This is an excellent value considering unrestored examples that are not this size are selling for as much as $1200. The solid wood case is hand decorated with Japanese motif; Chinoiserie decoration that was very popular in France for furniture and clocks from 1850-1900. The condition of the green paint which should be lacquer and hand decoration is excellent. Only minor edge wear to the gold gilt and some ware on the sides, the front is perfect. All components of this rare miniature clock are original. All brass was polished to a mirror finish and sealed, now restored to as it was over 100 years ago. The original damascene dial is marked Made in France. Clock is elevated on 4 original bun feet. The week duration timepiece movement was rebuilt and retains the original 7 ruby jewel platform escapement. the original platform is important to the value of the clock, since this is one component of the clock that was hand made and assembled. If the platform is replaced due to damage 75% of the Antique value is lost. This in not an opinion but fact that any certified clock appraised will verify. This is a very strong running and accurate clock to within a few minutes a week. The movement was made by the Cauaillet family in Saint-Nicolas-d’Aliermont, France. This family of clockmakers were known for making quality Carriage clocks. See the Carriage Clock Book pg. 435 for additional information.
