Tobacco advertising tin, Van Bibber Sliced Plug Pipe Tobacco, circa 1906, a product of American Tobacco Co., marked on the bottom Factory No. 2 District of MD. Van Bibber was a widely available nationally advertised Tobacco Trust brand. It wasn't until 1911 that VAN passed on to Lorillard in 1911. Tin is 4 1/2" long, 2 5/8" by 1". Lid has long single hinge, tin is lithographed, it retains excellent gold color, portrait graphic has some oxidation spots on man’s shirt, beveled edge top with rounded corners aligns properly and fits snug. See photos. Tin has been cleaned and waxed. Difficult to find in good condition, nice early example of Tobacco Advertising.
