This Miniature French Bracket Clock, is 8” tall, 5 1/2” wide, 3” deep, 100% original and fully restored. Please read the full description. This antique clock, circa 1890-1900 is very suitable for use as a mantel clock, desk or even bedside clock. Made by the Cauaillet family in Saint-Nicolas-d’Aliermont, France. Primarily known as makers of fine carriage clocks. See Carriage Clock Book, pg. 435 for additional information. Solid mahogany inlaid case retains a strong original finish that was cleaned and waxed. No damage to any hand inlaid woods, one small crack to the top plinth that supports the top brass finial, which has been glued and clamped. All brass is original to the clock and was polished to a mirror finish and sealed. Clock is now just as it was when made over 100+ years ago. The movement and case are stamped BTG (Jacques Benedict Time Group) a turn of the century distributor of quality Balloon, Carriage, and Desk clocks. The week duration time piece movement was rebuilt and retains the original 7 Ruby jewel platform escapement. It is clean with a perfect balance staff, hair spring and ruby jewels. These platform escapements were the one component of the clock that was hand made and assembled. When the platform is replaced due to damage 75% of the Antique value is lost, this is not an opinion but a fact that any certified clock appraiser would verify. This is a very strong running and accurate timekeeper to within a few minutes a week. The value for this Rare miniature Bracket clock is well below market, considering the shop restoration charge for rebuilding the movement, Case cleaning, and brass work is well over $400. See photo of what a properly restored French clock movement should look like The MINT original porcelain dial is marked Spaulding & Co., Chicago. They were the retailer of the clock and known for only dealing in quality clocks and jewelry. The clock has original cast brass bracket feet, convex beveled crystal, brass dust cover, hands, and not a single screw has been replaced. The originality of this clocks illustrates just how rare this miniature bracket clock is. See photos, shown are other miniature clocks from my personal collection, owned and enjoyed for 30+ years and now on sale and available for purchase.
