Inlaid French Regency Bracket Clock, Please read the full description, the clock has all matching numbers, made by Vincenti Paris France, retailed by Tiffany, New York. Imported to NY by Harris & Harrington, “H&H” between 1880-1919. The Inlaid Case and movement are 100% original, born and raised together, both have been completely restored. All 15 pieces of cast brass were polished to a mirror finish then sealed. The rear door retains the working lock and key. The mahogany case retains the original finish that was cleaned and waxed. Case is 18 1/2” tall, 13 1/2” wide and 9 1/2” deep with an 8” diameter dial. The silvered brass dial with engraved Roman numerals is near mint. The cast brass bezel holds a large convex glass crystal. The cast brass side fret work has new silk fabric. This lets the beautiful sounding chime out and keeps the dirt and dust out of the professionally restored French movement. The movement is a week duration and chimes each correct hour and once at each half hour. Chime has a very deep resonating sound. See the detailed restoration performed below. The dial, movement and pendulum are matching numbers, 1275. This has no bearing on when it was made but most importantly supports it’s originality. The dial and movement are held into the case with 2 long brass straps which are screwed to the back of the case. The left side screw was tightened too much, as a result pulling in the left front of the case some. Now adjusted and backed out, the inside front is reinforced, two brass tabs have been added to the inside of the bezel, this will prevent any future problems. The tabs have been screwed to the case and this will prevent the movement from rotating if it is vigorously wound. When this occurs the movement is knocked out of beat and it will not run. This is an often occurrence when clocks that are held in with two brass straps. The front of the case is inlaid with string satinwood, ebony wood, book matched walnut, and an oval medallion of crotch or flame mahogany. NO damage to any of the inlay. The four finials, 4 ball feet, 2 brass handles, 2 side frets, rear door brass screen, 2 hinges are all original to the clock. This is an exceptionally difficult clock to find. It looks good, sounds great, keeps accurate time. Everything you should expect from a professionally and properly restored 110 year old clock. See photos of what a properly restored clock should look like. Pay close attention to the clock movement note that is clean and polished with no black build up around the pivot holes..

The old 1980’s price guides for American and European clocks have disclaimers relative to value, “To receive top value clocks must be in mint original condition and good running order, a replaced dial, missing parts will reduce the price." The value of this clock has increased greatly in value since then. See photos.
"The following is the restoration performed".

All Brass parts polished and sealed, just as it was done over 100 years ago. I am a purest and believe in preserving as much as humanly possible. The Value for Good Antiques is in Originality and Condition. Not Damaged, Broken, or comprised of non-original parts and overall dirty condition. Good Original Restored Antique Clocks have increased in value by leaps and bounds. Where-as non original unrestored clocks have not increase in value and are pretty much the same value they were years ago. 40 years ago it was fronded upon to restore an original dial, refinish the case and a factory label was missing. Now due to the lack of good original clocks these things have become acceptable and will not alter the value.

The clock movement was completely disassembled and cleaned in an Ultra Sonic cleaner. all pivots were resurfaced and polished on the Watch Makers lathe, 4 new bronze bearings were installed into worn pivot holes. I use the more expensive bronze bushings simply because they are harder and last longer than brass bushings. All bushing work in done by hand not with a drill press or bushing machine. This ensures the bushings are the correct size and are installed perpendicular. Once installed the interior of the bushing is polished with a smoothing broach and the oil sinks are hand cut into the front of the new bearing, the back side is cut to remove troublesome burrs. All metal to metal wear was eliminated. The verge was hand stoned and polished with a Sapphire file then trued to the escape wheel. Both main springs were too weak to operate the clock properly. These were replaced with brand new springs of the correct length, width and thickness. The clock was cleaned again in the Ultra Sonic cleaner to remove any metal particles, then polished, assembled and lubricated with the finest clock oil. The clock now runs and chimes properly as it should. I run and test my clocks for 30 days prior to being offered for sale. This is what I do with all of my clocks and have done for the last 35 years. As a clockmaker, all work is performed to the highest Horological standard.

Basic Information You Should Know!

For those of you who are not familiar with the term "Restoration", this simply means cleaning, waxing and repairing a clock or any other Antique to original condition without alteration. The more an item is original the more it is worth. The less original the less it is worth. If the clock movement is changed, the Antique Value is diminished to parts only and can not be valued as an Antique.

Polishing the Brass will not alter the Antique Value of a clock.

Not everyone can afford or even appreciate this level of restoration. However, that is no reason to perpetuate the misrepresenting and dishonesty by other clock sellers. There is a perfectly good reason why clock sellers will not show you the clock mechanism. #1 their clock is dirty, badly worn and probably not original to the case. #2 if it is shown it does not look like my clock movements. #3 The latest deception is that sellers are taking a photo of the movement with a bright flash giving the illusion that the brass movement is clean and bright. Saying that a clock is running good does not mean it will keep accurate time.

Many internet clock sellers claim that they guarantee the clock runs, however when the clock arrives it will not run. When the seller is contacted he simply passes the buck to the shipper that it was damaged in shipping and you the buyer should file a insurance claim. This gets him off the hook for selling a clock that was not in good order to begin with. WARNING, If not packed properly the shipper will refuse the damage claim. Sound Familiar? My properly restored original Antique Clocks will provide years of uninterrupted service and pleasure. Hope this little tidbit of information aids you in making an intelligent decision on what to buy or NOT. All my clocks come with a correct fitting key, a set of instructions specific to this clock and the best packing in the business. I expect you to take the clock out of the box and have it up and running in a short time and I am here to support you .
