Antique Wall Clock, Please read the full description, week duration hourly chime, made by the American Company, New Haven Clock Co., New Haven, Conn. Circa 1875 – 1880. 100% original, completely restored to factory condition. The Cambria model is by far the best looking wall clock made by the New Haven Clock Co. This clock was only made for a few short years, The clock is very difficult to find especially the early chiming version and in this original condition.. Case is 41 1/2” tall, 13 1/4” wide at the bottom and 16” wide at the top, 4 3/4” deep with an 8” diameter original dial. Dial measures 7” minute track to minute track. The original finish was cleaned and waxed. I intentionally left the old dirt and wax buildup behind the top. This is how black the entire case was. From a collector’s point of view as far as antique value, it is totally correct to save what was there, “original finish”, as opposed to refinishing. There is a very nice factory label on the back which has been sealed with plastic. The marked beat indicator is very legible. The dial is enamel on zinc with a German nickel silver bezel. The dial was sent out to have 3 chips in the paint touched up and the Roman numerals strengthened. The large 8 day chiming movement is original to the case. This is the earliest version, pre 1880 where the movement is held in with 2 wood blocks as opposed to later movements with 4 feet that were screwed to the backboard. No extra holes in the backboard. The clock retains the original New Haven brass pendulum and wood stick, original hands, hinges, latch and original dial door. The door glass appears to have been replaced. The movement has been completely rebuilt. See detailed restoration performed listed below. This fine antique wall clock looks good, runs accurately and chimes correctly. There is what you should expect from a properly and professionally restored 130 year old original antique clock. Drury House Antiques has more than 80+ antique clocks listed for sale. See photos. The old 1980’s price guides have disclaimers relative to value, “To receive top value clocks must be in mint original condition and good running order, a replaced dial, missing parts will reduce the price." The value of this clock in the 80’s has increased greatly in value since then. See photos.

"The following is the restoration performed".
All Brass parts polished and sealed, just as it was done over 100 years ago. I am a purest and believe in preserving as much as humanly possible. The Value for Good Antiques is in Originality and Condition. Not Damaged, Broken, or comprised of non-original parts and overall dirty condition. Good Original Restored Antique Clocks have increased in value by leaps and bounds. Where-as non original unrestored clocks have not increase in value and are pretty much the same value they were years ago. 40 years ago it was fronded upon to restore an original dial, refinish the case and a factory label was missing. Now due to the lack of good original clocks these things have become acceptable and will not alter the value, or so the experts say.
The clock movement was completely disassembled and cleaned in an Ultra Sonic cleaner. all pivots were resurfaced and polished on the Watch Makers lathe, 10 new bronze bearings were installed into worn pivot holes. I use the more expensive bronze bushings simply because they are harder and last longer than brass bushings. All bushing work in done by hand not with a drill press or bushing machine. This ensures the bushings are the correct size and are installed perpendicular. Once installed the interior of the bushing is polished with a smoothing broach and the oil sinks are hand cut into the front of the new bearing, the back side is cut to remove troublesome burrs. All metal to metal wear was eliminated. The verge was hand stoned and polished with a Sapphire file then trued to the escape wheel. Both main springs were too weak to operate the clock properly. These were replaced with brand new springs of the correct length, width and thickness. The clock was cleaned again in the Ultra Sonic cleaner to remove any metal particles, assembled and lubricated with the finest clock oil. The clock now runs with a very strong pendulum amplitude as it should. I run and test my clocks for 30 days prior to being offered for sale. This is what I do and have done for the last 35 years. As a clockmaker, all work is performed to the highest Horological standard.
Basic Information You Should Know!
For those of you who are not familiar with the term "Restoration", this simply means cleaning, waxing and repairing a clock or any other Antique to original condition without alteration. The more an item is original the more it is worth. The less original the less it is worth. If the clock movement is changed, the Antique Value is diminished to parts only and can not be valued as an Antique.
Polishing the Brass will not alter the Antique Value of a clock.
Not everyone can afford or even appreciate this level of restoration. However, that is no reason to perpetuate the misrepresenting and dishonesty by other clock sellers. There is a perfectly good reason why clock sellers will not show you the clock mechanism. #1 their clock is dirty, badly worn and probably not original to the case. #2 if it is shown it does not look like my clock movements. #3 The latest deception is that sellers are taking a photo of the movement with a bright flash giving the illusion that the brass movement is clean and bright. Saying that a clock is running good does not mean it will keep accurate time.
Many internet clock sellers claim that they guarantee the clock runs, however when the clock arrives it will not run. When the seller is contacted he simply passes the buck to the shipper that it was damaged in shipping and you the buyer should file a insurance claim. This gets him off the hook for selling a clock that was not in good order to begin with. WARNING, If not packed properly the shipper will refuse the damage claim. Sound Familiar?
