Mortar and pestle from pharmacy or drugstore, Circa 1880, wood, NO damage to either piece, mortar is 4 3/4" tall, pedestal base is 3" diameter with lathe turning hole on the bottom, mortar opening is 4" diameter, basin is 2 1/2" deep, see photo of wonderful wood graining. Pestle is 6 3/4" long. This early mortar and pestle was an essential mashing tool used in pharmacies for mixing apothecary ingredients, grains, seeds and herbs. It has been cleaned and would make a handsome display piece. We have several others to choose from in different sizes. See last photo.
