Heart shaped jewelry box, casket or trinket box, American made circa 1914, made by Weidlich Bros. Mfg. Co., of Bridgeport, Ct. Backstamped on underside of back leg. MINT, interior and exterior. NO damage, NO repairs, hinge is perfect. Casket or trinket box is 4 1/2” long, 3 1/2” wide, 2 3/4” widest at the back. Light blue velvet lined interior is clean and stain free. Among the American Art Metal manufacturers, the Weidlich Brothers applied for and received at least 67 patents for their designs. Louis was granted more than a dozen design patents including jewelry cases. This particular one was featured in 1914 catalogue. Well made it weighs 1 1/4 pounds. The heavy cast base metal was originally copper plated then silver plated. This piece has had very little polishing in its life. In the early 1900's this period metal jewelry caskets flourished. The terms Silver Wash or Gold Wash simply means an item has had a heavy Rattle Can spray Paint Job and is not desirable to any serious collector. Perfect for vanity display.
