SOLD National Remedy Co. of New York Japanese Oil Bottle
Drugstore or apothecary bottle, Japanese Oil, medicinal product made by National Remedy Co., of New York. 2 1/8 ounce capacity bottle has original metal twist off cap, is 5 1/2” tall, 1 3/4” by 7/8” has elongated neck, beveled corners, is embossed on the back National Remedy Company New York. Bottle was made by Pierce Glass Co. of St. Mary’s, Pa. (1902-1912) and Hamburg, NY (1912-1917). Glass is Damage free, no chips, cracks or cloudiness. Paper label, portion missing bottom left, see photo. Label reads EN.AR.CO. The origin of the name EN-AR-CO, came from phonetic sounding of the initials, NRC, National Remedy Co. The company was started about 1884. They were proprietors of a number of medicinal products one of these was called Japanese Oil (1904). The National Remedy Company was located in New York City at 115 Fulton St. in 1912. The Name was later changed to EN-AR-CO Oil (1912-1933+). The advertising states that the product was on the market “for over fifty years” and that it had been used since 1884. Before 1900, the product had been known as “Japanese Oil”.
