Antique spun brass kettle, some times commonly referred to as a pail or bucket. This one is actually in the strictest sense a cooking pot due to the fact that the bottom is not flat but rather domed so that heat would radiate evenly. Marked on the bottom it was made by H. W. Haydens, Patent Dec. 16, 1851. Other information is hard to read but it ws common knowledge that he was a prolific maker and was associate for a period with Ansonia Brass Co. This brass kettle is 5 1/4" tall, 8 3/4" diameter at its rolled rim top and tapers to 6 1/2" at the bottom. Metal bale handle extends 5" and as shown in the photo rest on the outer rim. Pig tail handle swings free and is fastened via rivets the sides of the bucket. NO HOLES, see photos all sides and bottom are shown.
