COWBOY roly poly tin, not marked but replica was first made in 1979. Originally American Tobacco controlled Tindeco (tin container manufacturer), as well as the brands of tobacco sold in these tins. Each container held about 1 lb of tobacco with the brand names Mayo’s or Dixie Queen appearing on the backside. This tin is in excellent condition and vibrant colors. There is a very small dimple on top of his head. The head has ribbed texture when felt,it was made this way. Overall size is 6 1/2" tall , 5 3/4" diameter at the waist, top lifts off. The Cowboy was the replacement for the original Dutchman. Tin has been cleaned and waxed. As shown in the photo on the backside Mayo’s Cut Plug Tobacco pack is advertised. See Photos.
The originals of the tins were designed to be used as tobacco containers, that is why the brand is often featured on the back side. Cheinco Industries, produced this series of lithographed roly poly tins which were marketed by Bristol Ware, a division of Cheinco. (Note: not sure when the Bristol Ware Division started, came into being or how production was broken down.)
This and other replica round tobacco tins we have listed are perfect as storage tins or use simply for display. See photo, Mrs. Claus, the Butcher, the Singer, Businessman and Santa Claus are listed individually for sale.
