WOW this chatelaine is wonderful! Hands down the best example of one I have had the pleasure of offering. A superb piece that once belonged to someone of importance! This chatelaine is quite regal and bears a family crest with motto. On the top of crest sits a crown which rest on two shields. The banner reads "Predew Predaw". Two proud lions stand on either side. I have not been able to identify this family signet but with more research this could be discovered. Center compartment opens to reveal a locket. There is a photo of a gentlemen inside but no information is written on the picture. Done in the Etruscan Revival style and crafted of 18k yellow gold. This form of work was very hard to create. It is presented in its original case that bears the name "G. Tuffier Brest." From top of crown to bottom of longest extension it measures 4 inches long. At its widest point it is approximately 1 1/2 inches. The chatelaines combined total weight is 49.7 grams. The back bar is crafted of sterling silver with a gold gilt. There is a hallmark on the end of watch hook. This one is the eagles head for 18K. There is also marks on the hoops above the agate finial. One on crown and one on both sides of silver bar. Metals have been carefully tested to ensure the purities. Looks like the maker mark initials are D R. The condition is as follows. The left segment which once held the watch key is missing. There is a also a break and missing segment on the left side. Appears to have been repaired on the right hand side long ago. Also possibly to back of two tops of crown. The original watch is no longer present. Gold does have areas of dark patina. Regardless of these issues this is an amazing chatelaine that is worthy of an advanced collection! A skilled jeweler can replicate the left hand side if you so desire. Please examine photos and ask all questions prior to purchase. Thank you!
