The wood butter paddles were used to knead and shape the butter into balls. Especially popular during the 19th century but were certainly used beyond also. Paddles are in good condition for their age. Lightly used as the grooves are still pointed. Dark marks are noted on the wood were it was indented from use. The paddles measure 9 7/8 inches long and are 3 inches across on the grooved area. Paddles were also known as clappers, beaters, Scotch hands, and treenware. Very nice set of vintage butter paddles for your consideration.
