This is a vintage Wedgwood commemorative plate in red and white transferware, honoring Johnny Appleseed. The plate is 10 3/8" wide. There is an engraving of Johnny Appleseed in the center and a floral and leaf border around the rim. There are three backstamps in red on the reverse side. The first reads "Mary Penrose Wayne Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution presents this plate in honor of John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, whose final resting place overlooks the St. Josephy River in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Engraved from the design of Leona Loy 1957." The next mark is the standard Wedgwood of Etruria & Barlaston Made in England mark. The third is a circle that reads "Engraved by the Wedgwood Studios." The plate is in excellent condition with no damage.
